A Palace by Lake Pichola

The Oberoi Udaivilas in Udaipur is a royal dream come true. This resort, set on the banks of Lake Pichola, channels Rajasthan's regal heritage with its domes, courtyards, and intricate mosaics. From the moment I arrived, I felt like a maharaja!

The resort's private boat ride across the lake was a magical start, with views of the City Palace glowing at sunset. I spent days exploring Udaipur's forts and markets, but the resort itself was a destination. The infinity pool, overlooking the lake, was my go-to for relaxation, and I tried yoga in the gardens for a dose of zen.

Dining at Udaimahal was a foodie's paradise. The Rajasthani thali, with its spicy laal maas and buttery dal baati, was a flavor explosion. I also loved the rooftop cocktails at Chandni, where the lake's reflection sparkled under the stars.

The spa's Ayurvedic massage was pure bliss, using warm oils and ancient techniques. The Oberoi Udaivilas is where luxury meets India's soul, and I can't wait to return.

Rajasthan’s Regal Heritage

Built in 2002, The Oberoi Udaivilas draws inspiration from Udaipur’s 16th-century Mewar dynasty, its architecture echoing the grandeur of Rajput palaces. Set on the former hunting grounds of the Maharana, it blends modern luxury with Rajasthan’s storied past. As I wandered its courtyards, I felt the echoes of maharajas who once roamed these lands, their legacy alive in every detail.

More Royal Experiences

The resort’s offerings are fit for royalty. I tried a photography tour of Udaipur’s palaces, capturing their golden-hour glow. Cooking classes taught me to spice up a Rajasthani curry, and stargazing sessions by the lake were magical. For adventure, I took a horse-riding tour through nearby villages, feeling like a warrior prince—each experience made my stay unforgettable.

Exploring Udaipur’s Wonders

Udaipur is a treasure chest. The City Palace, with its museums and views, was a must. I explored Jagdish Temple’s intricate carvings and shopped for vibrant textiles in Hathi Pol market. Saheliyon-ki-Bari’s gardens were a serene escape, and a day trip to Kumbhalgarh Fort’s massive walls blew me away. Monsoon Palace, perched on a hill, offered sunset views that left me speechless.

When to Visit The Oberoi Udaivilas

Winter (October to March) is perfect, with cool, sunny days ideal for exploring—my favorite time! Summer (April to June) is hot, but the resort’s pool and AC make it bearable. Monsoon (July to September) brings lush greenery but occasional rain, so pack accordingly. Book early for February’s Udaipur World Music Festival for a cultural treat!

  • Tip: Book a heritage walk to explore Udaipur's history.
  • Don't Miss: The evening folk dance performance.
