A Desert Oasis in Utah
Amangiri, tucked in Utah's desert near Canyon Point, is a resort that redefines luxury. Surrounded by stark mesas and endless skies, this minimalist masterpiece blends into the landscape, and I was instantly captivated by its serene beauty.
Days were spent exploring the desert. I joined a guided hike through slot canyons, marveling at the sculpted rock formations. For adventure, I tried rock climbing, my heart pounding as I scaled a cliff with a guide. Stargazing at night, with the Milky Way blazing above, was pure magic.
Dining at Amangiri was a foodie's delight. The tasting menu featured Navajo-inspired dishes, like smoked trout with corn puree, paired with a crisp Chardonnay. Breakfasts on my private terrace, with fresh smoothies and pastries, felt like a ritual.
The spa's desert stone massage was transformative, using warm rocks to ease tension. Amangiri is a sanctuary where nature and luxury collide, offering an unforgettable escape in the American Southwest.
A Modern Desert Marvel
Opened in 2009, Amangiri was designed by architects Marwan Al-Sayed, Wendell Burnette, and Rick Joy to blend with Utah’s desert. Its name, meaning “peaceful mountain,” reflects its serene ethos. Inspired by ancient Anasazi architecture, it’s a haven for celebrities and seekers of solitude. As I lounged by the pool, I felt the desert’s timeless spirit in its sleek lines.
More Desert Adventures
Amangiri’s adventures are boundless. I tried horseback riding through canyons, feeling like a cowboy under vast skies. Via ferrata climbs tested my nerve, while yoga sessions at sunrise brought calm. Cultural tours to Navajo sites taught me about local heritage, and hot-air balloon rides offered surreal desert views—each moment was a solo traveler’s dream.
Exploring Utah’s Red Rock Country
Utah’s wonders surround Amangiri. I visited Zion National Park’s dramatic cliffs and Bryce Canyon’s hoodoos, both a few hours away. Lake Powell’s turquoise waters were perfect for kayaking, and Antelope Canyon’s slot canyons dazzled. The nearby town of Page offered quirky diners, while Grand Staircase-Escalante’s trails beckoned—every trip added awe to my journey.
When to Visit Amangiri
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are ideal, with mild temperatures for hiking and climbing—my favorite! Summer (June to August) is hot, but the pool and AC keep it luxurious. Winter (December to February) offers crisp air and fewer crowds, perfect for stargazing. Book early for spring to avoid peak season rush.
- Tip: Book a hot-air balloon ride for sunrise views.
- Don't Miss: The pool, carved into the desert rock.
